The Role

THE SCHOOL

Marlborough Primary School is a happy, vibrant school which is situated in a semi-rural, relatively affluent suburb of Macclesfield. The school was originally built in 1967 and was extended in 1994 to provide for the needs of a growing housing estate. The older part of school has 6 traditional classrooms; the newer extension has 8 classrooms and two large shared practical areas. The school benefits from two halls, and both are used for P.E., dance, drama, music and P.S.H.E. as well as for lunchtimes. The school has a main kitchen with meals provided by a small catering team employed directly by the school. There is also a small children’s kitchen used for curriculum work. In addition to the main building, the school has a number of mobile classrooms, which accommodate a SEND resource base, out of school care club and a separately run pre-school.

 

The school Governors took the decision to convert to an Academy in 2015 and joined Fallibroome Academy Trust, soon to become the Halliard Trust, on the 1st September 2019. The school enjoys high quality support from the Trust for both teaching and learning and from a business perspective. The Trust has established a practical wellbeing strategy to support all members of the school community.

 

The school received a short, one day Ofsted inspection in February 2024 and retained its ‘Good’ grade.

The report states that:

‘Pupils flourish at this welcoming and friendly school. They feel happy to be part of such a warm and caring community. The school has high expectations for pupils’ learning. Pupils proudly rise to meet these aspirations. They achieve well across a range of subjects. The trust and school have worked together effectively to design a curriculum which is ambitious for pupils.’

 

It goes onto say that:

 

‘ The trust and school engage well with staff. Staff spoke overwhelmingly positively about the school and the way that decisions are made with their workload and well-being in mind.’


Our current School Development Plan priorities are as follows:

 

To further enhance the school’s inclusive culture through equipping staff with a deeper understanding of neurodiversity, develop classroom practice further to meet the diverse needs of all pupils and explore the role of the learning environment, leading to improved educational outcomes and a school environment where all pupils thrive.

 

  • Curriculum development- Maximising the impact of the curriculum through the teaching of key conceptual vocabulary for all subjects including those needing additional support with language acquisition. 

 

  • To enhance our safe, supportive, and nurturing school environment by integrating trauma-informed practices into school policy and practice.

 

 

In addition to the priority School Development Plans, each subject leader contributes to the SDP, creating specific action plans for their responsibility area. This empowers staff to ensure that all areas of school can grow and develop. In our drive to improve, we welcome innovation but also place great value in the traditional elements of school life – good manners, perseverance and hardworking attitudes. Visitors to school often comment on the excellent behaviour of pupils and the positive atmosphere.

 

There are currently over 400 pupils on roll between the ages of 4 and 11 years organised into 2 classes for each year group. Although many of our children attend the on-site, privately run pre-school, the school also takes children from a wide range of pre school settings. The school has a good reputation for supporting children with SEN and we are proud of our inclusive approach. 9.1% of our pupils are on the Special Educational Need and Disability register and 4.4% of our children have an Education Health Care Plan. The number of pupils entitled to free school meals is below the national average with 7.9% of pupils classed as ever 6 and in receipt of Pupil Premium funding. We also have a small number of pupils who are in the care of the Local Authority. 5.4% of our children have English as an Additional Language. The school is sometimes used by relocation agencies who assist families from abroad to settle in the Macclesfield area. 

 

Alongside striving for high academic standards, the school enjoys an excellent reputation for competitive and non-competitive sport and many pupils and staff get involved in the wide range of sport offered. We have been awarded the Gold Active Mark in recognition of this work for four years on the run and in 2019, we were very proud to be awarded the Platinum Active Mark. The school also ensures that pupils have lots of opportunities to take part in performing arts, including Fallibroome’s performing arts week, which are very well supported by parents. 

 

The school has a supportive Local Governing Body who are involved in school improvement. Governors meet twice per term at full Governing Body meetings which are split into two agendas: pupils and resources. The Multi Academy Trust has a Board of Trustees who meet regularly to oversee the work of the Trust. We have an active PTA who provide a wide range of social activities for children and their families, raising about £10,000 each year. Parents have high aspirations for their children and many take an active part in the life of the school.

The post is full time and is temporary due to a maternity leave. The successful candidate will work alongside our experienced team of year 1 teachers. 

 

The school uses a creative approach to the curriculum; developing themes to inspire and motivate its pupils. We have introduced a new, bespoke Marlborough curriculum in September 2020 which maximises the use of our local environment as well as tailoring learning opportunities to the needs of our pupils. Pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are offered a carefully planned residential programme which supports social and emotional aspects of learning; many visits also link to class themes. We also use themed days, visitors and day trips to bring learning to life. We have a Forest School area within the school grounds; two of our teachers have undertaken formal Forest School accreditation to support the wider work of the school.

Teacher – Year 1

Job purpose:

To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils, incorporating the National Curriculum requirements and in line with the curriculum policies of the school. 


Reports to: The Headteacher


Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will undertake the role according to the Conditions of Employment in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and the DfE Teachers’ Standards which include: -

  1. To develop and maintain a safe and stimulating classroom environment
  2. To teach pupils according to their educational needs
  3. To implement and follow school policies and procedures as approved by the governors and the senior leadership team
  4. To set targets for pupils based upon prior attainment
  5. Provide a supportive learning environment where resources can be accessed appropriately by all pupils
  6. To participate in the performance management process for the evaluation of their own performance
  7. To maintain good order and discipline in the classroom in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy
  8. To maintain appropriate records and provide accurate information on pupil progress and other relevant matters as required by the school
  9. To maintain an accurate register
  10. To alert the headteacher of any persistent or major problems being experienced by pupils and contribute towards a solution
